UV-Index Forecasting System and Instrument Calibration Laboratory

The main task of this project is to enhance the UV forecast and monitoring in Taiwan, the purpose of this project is: (1) to maintain a UV forecasting accuracy up to 75% or above; (2) to maintain the correctness of UV monitoring values; (3) to expand the database of UV Forecast and Monitoring; (4) to set up the complete record of UV instruments calibration. And, the main works of UV forecasting and monitoring include data analysis, model development, and instrument calibration. The UV forecasting system can provide the daily monitoring data for the subjective as amended, and the use of the seven-day weather forecasts (proving by the Central Weather Bureau) for seven consecutive days as the UVI forecasts. Prediction analysis of the effectiveness include: daily, weekly and Seasonal analysis; set the web pages of forecasting, organizing all of the analysis results together, to provide the operating personnel are readily available; and set up monitoring web pages, to provide contour map, daily and hourly changes of UVI, monthly analysis and spatial distribution of map, and hyperlinks to UV Forecast System database, providing historical data and annual reports. For model development, base on the annual results, this year will use UVSPEC, input weather conditions, such as the temperature, pressure, terrain, cloud, zenith angle, ozone concentration, and calculating amount of ultraviolet radiation, converting to index and then to make the monitoring results with the actual comparison. This year is expected to establish the model system after automation. According to the quality control requirements of UV Instrument Calibration Laboratory (UVICL), we will make on-site radiometer-parallel-comparisons during May to August, and do the radiometer calibration and related works during September to November, and set up the complete record f UV instruments calibration, to ensure the accuracy of monitoring equipment and monitoring data quality.
